On the evening of July 2, 25 classmates and guests enjoyed a fun evening at the Billy and Laura Yamamoto "Kahei Hubba Hubba Night club. There was so much food of every kind that could easily have fed over 100 people. At the ending of the night a Sakura tournament was held and the team of Billy Yamamoto and Rudy Garcia defeated Ryan Tohara and Andy Oshita 3 games to 2. The activities ended at 12:45 a.m. Classmates continued to meet at Kamehameha Park where the "Welcome Back to Kohala" community activities were held, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. For those classmates and guests who were still in town on Monday, a final gathering was held Monday evening once again hosted by Billy and Laura. But this time besides more good food, the first Yamamoto Invitational Sakura Tournament was held. Classmates names were randomly selected and somehow Laura and Billy's name were selected to be one team and they ultimately won the championship defeating Wendell Mattos and Renee Ito. However, sad to say but the losing team filed a grievance for what they believe were "signals" being given by the husband-wife winning team that made it possible for their home field victory.
Results of this double elimination tournament:
Renee/Wendell defeated Vivian/Leonetta 2 games to 1
Billy/Laura defeated Sharon/Linda 2 games to 1
Billy/Laura defeated Renee/Wendell 2 games to 1
Vivian/Leonetta defeated Sharon/Linda in a sweep 2 straight games
Renee/Wendell defeated Vivian/Leonetta 2 games to 1 to set up a rematch with the Yamamotos
Billy/Laura defeat Renee/Wendell 2 games to 1 to go undefeated and claim the championship
Renee and Wendell's grievance is being reviewed by the World Association of Sakura - United Society or commonly referred to as the WAS UP? See photos on this site of this tournament that failed to display any signs of good sportsmanship of any kind especially from the female contestants from Washington and California whose names shall remain anonymous. As a result of the fun time had by all participants, the reunion committee is seriously considering including a Sakura Tournament at our next class reunion in 2013. Thanks for all of our classmates and their guests who were able to make it to this fun event, especially those who had to come from the mainland or outer islands and especially to Billy and Laura for opening up their home to us. See you all in 2013.
We welcomed Eva(class of 70) & Harvey Carvalho (class of 69) to our Friday evening reunion.
Ryan, Clyde and Wendell sharing a laugh together.
Yolanda, Vivian, Mrs. Nakasone, Marie, Kwaz, Sharon and Dale during welcome comments from Billy.
Laura and Billy welcoming classmates and guests to the reunion. Thanks Billy & Laura.
Renee and Laura first in line to grub. Nah, as usual, they were the first to arrive to help with the organizing of food. Thanks to the two of you. Renee, call Laura and tell her to go to her sister Eva's home to see these pictures. She is too cheap to buy a computer but can travel all around the world. Laura, Billy really wants to have a computer. First you deprive him of mayonnaise, now its a computer. Give the man a break. :) :)

More pictures of our 60th birthday party provided by Marie Ann Ramiro Bois.
Thanks Ann !!!
Richard & Norma Baker. Thanks Norma for sharing with us those wonderful and humorous Hawi camp stories of your friends who were not able to attend i.e. Vivian, Linda, Eleanor, & Devika (Virginia). They were warned that their lack of attendance might be "hazardous" to their social well being. And to think that for all these years we thought they were studious, well behaving young ladies. Thanks Norma for bringing out the truth !!! :) :)
Glenn Ah Sam & wife Donna. That's a bottle of pure Las Vegas water that Glenn is holding. For those who were unable to attend, here's one of the trivia questions asked that evening. What is still mounted on the outside wall of the Ah Sam's garage in Niulii on the way to KeoKea Park even after all these years?

We had a wonderful time at our 60th Birthday party held on March 17, 2010 in the Maile Room of the California Hotel. We met the night before outside of the Maile Room to check in and "talk story" which was scheduled from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm. However, it didn't disband until 1:30 a.m. so we must have been having a great time. A golf tournament was held early in the day and following are the results.
GOLF TOURNAMENT RESULTS:
Closest to the Pin: Women-Marie Ann Bois, Men-Owen (Dale's Brother in law)

After dinner we participated in three games;
REMEMBA KOHALA - Trivia questions about Kohala such as:Name the 2 bands that provided music at our school dances, Name 3 of the famous "make out" places in Kohala, What was Norma Doliente's best sport in High School, What were the first names of two of Patricia Kaohu's brothers names, Name 3 of the 5 ladies who worked in our cafeteria.
NAME DA KINE TUNE - Played songs from our high school days and we had to name the title and group or individual who recorded it.
NOT SO NEWLEYWED GAME - Participating couples "selected at random" were Laura & Billy Yamamoto, Odetta & Jason Shimotsu, Norma & Richard Baker, Sydney & Richard Gourley, and Dale & Janice Ishiara. All the couples were very good sports and came up with great answers to questions such as; Who initiated the first move when you met? On a scale of 1 - 10 how much would you rate your first kiss? Would your husband have as a poster in his room during his high school days a poster of sports, nature, rock group, or himself? Does your husband prefer briefs, boxers, going commando or thongs? You should have been there to hear their answers. Lots of laughter.
We realized as we listed everyone's birthdays that only William Yamamoto had reached the ripe old age of 60, for which we were all gathered in Las Vegas. Everyone else had not yet reached their 60th birthdays as of the night of our party. So we all sang Happy Birthday to William but at the conclusion, he got up and asked that we do it over again but with more enthusiasm since it was his birthday. So his wish was granted and we did an encore.
Ann Aoyagi provided the birthday cake and it was absolutely scrumptious. It was a coconut angel food cake with whipped cream frosting and fruits such as strawberries, and kiwis. It was wonderful and thank you Ann for your contribution. Thank you to all those who provided door prizes and we ended up with more than enough. Thanks also to all the spouses and guests who attended and participated in our after dinner games. Everyone were good sports and that what makes and event such as this a success.
Kohala will be having a community reunion from July 2-5 2010 and we will be having a class reunion on Friday night July 3, and meet at Kamehameha Park on Saturday to participate in the community reunion. More information will be provided in a couple of months once we receive the program outline from the Kohala Reunion committee. We're looking for a place to meet on Friday night so if there are any classmates in Kohala who would be willing to host it in their "garage" let me know.
So hope you all will be able to make it to this reunion in July. Take care and Aloha
